I can't help but notice that our Western society is becoming more and more selfish, into itself and getting closer to oblivion of what surrounds it. And hence I see ourselves being less and less attuned to what goes on around us. We just can't afford, shouldn't!!!, to just stick our heads in the sand. Through ignorance and inaction we allow this 'cancer' to keep multiplying.
We can never afford to see these as end times only as a transition to better times. The tyranny of the West has programmed us for failure and totalitarianism ... and totalitarianism is the ideology of moral and defeatist intellectual cowards. There is nothing brave about Trump's presidency. He manifests the insipid bravado of a dying empire which he inherited. Now is the time we must see everything in historical context as history is the great whistle blower. History is like objective truth it can be abused and tortured but still springs back to life.
No, we (minority/majority?) don't see anything brave in Trump's presidency. But too many, more and more, DO SEE something brave and, sad to see it happening, seem to be gaining the upper hand. As the saying goes...shit always rises to the top (sooner or later).
I think Trump's popularity is slipping badly in the US based on polls and nation wide demonstrations.. Public passivity is a problem; but the systemic corruptions are an immense challenge.
Excellent article, Robert. This is so true, and so pertinent to this terrifying moment we're living through.
"We are truly in the “Age of Anger”. The anger and revanchism of warmongers as victims of their failed criminal machinations. The anger of societies so recklessly exploited and abandoned, where people should come first, they place last.
How we approach the world determines how it will respond, belligerence generates negative outcomes every time.
How many fallacies are required to maintain an empire? As many as necessary, for as long as they remain unchallenged.
Take it one step further - from "fallacy" to fantasy. Western societies cannot operate at equilibrium, they must embody fantasy, by whatever means - new moon-shot, new "threat," new toys, whatever means of mind-focus to keep the populace onside. Since WW-II in USA, and becoming ever more so in Canada, politics has become merely a spectators sport, a mockery of democracy.

I've stated this many times: non-violent demonstrations, wherever, have taken us absolutely NOWHERE!

We become the fallacies we live by."
