When leaders denigrate history other cultures citizens beware.
I just had a rewarding telephone conversation with my grandson. He is learning to be a heretic! He is reading books on history and a lot of other things. He is forming his world view, developing his critical judgement and understanding the forces that shape our world— the good, the bad, the ugly, with a good smattering of the atrocious we see in present times .
To be a heretic is to hold views and ideas away from the norm, apart from the pack, also known as dissidence. Heresy and dissidence in modern times easily become treason as anything that departs from bombastic propaganda is suspect. The propaganda is there to manage our perceptions so war mongers and vicious ideologues can carry out their agendas where the public is reduced to a transnational mushroom farm existence where we are fed bullshit and kept in the dark .
History as Heretic
When war arrives history is the heretic as it must be slandered out of existence with propaganda and jingoism so the war agenda prevails. Wars are stripped of historical context as they are the sum total of the treachery that comes before. With the present war so much of the treachery is revealed during the progress of the war as the propagators audaciously state their true intentions, sloppily incriminate themselves, and scrabble to readjust their nefarious agendas.
The fog of war is not only a natural consequence of war but an essential manufactured component. Only after the war and the return of rational thought will historians render their assessment with golden hindsight. Only after the tragedy and all the collateral damage that lingers decades later will we see a true picture of events, embalmed and relegated to dusty archives.
We have yet to internalize the lessons of the twentieth century as we inaugurate even greater wars at greater cost. History not only rhymes it repeats itself. Too much of which is going on now is stunningly reminiscent of WW ll—except that we are on the wrong side of history.
It is little wonder tyrants burn books so they get to write their version of history. They steal the past, present and future where they can.
The overweening powers dominating and controlling the agenda of the Collective West are powerfully anti-democratic and addicted to perpetual warfare. Not only do they want to slander history out of existence, they are rewriting it in their favor and setting down the roots of global fascism- nothing less! Never have the 1% had so much unaccountable and unprecedented power and wealth. Never have Western democracies been so feeble. Never has the abyss between those who govern and the governed been so wide and so deep, with the former practicing unremitting belligerence and arrogance, and the latter compulsive passivity.
Before starting WW ll, Hitler’s Third Reich spent over a decade preparing his country and its peoples for war. He build his war machine with the assistance of Western investors. He had to indoctrinate his population. As Aryans they were the superior and ultimate human beings. Germans were taught to hate Jews, Poles, Russians and who ever else served as handy scapegoats for his fascist agenda. The same is happening today as we are programed to hate Russian’s and Chinese.
We shun any reference to the term fascism as it immediately infers the pure evil of the Third Reich, when in fact Western societies suffer too many vestiges of the Third Reich with our compulsive propensity for wars, contempt for international law and denying the right of other nations to co-existence on their own terms. The words “naked imperialism” are too rarely uttered.
Paving the road to perpetual war
US President Ronald Reagan and British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher were god parents to the neoliberal ideology that has been with us for half a century. As obliging politicians they played their role in the assault on political democracy and dissolution of the public sector, such that corporate power and the economic fascism of neoliberalism could reign supreme.
Being the dedicated ideologue she was Margaret Thatcher told us “There’s no such thing as society”. Ms. Thatcher rewrote the history of the world in one short sentence! Mankind has always lived in societies in one form or another and always will. We are social beings and tribal in one form or another since the beginning of time. Over time our tribal/social societies have become more sophisticated and complex .
Thatcher no doubt made her venomous comment to pave the way for neoliberalism which requires the denigration of liberal democracy, human rights, and societies, at the same time negating history. Societies throughout the world are by definition distinct. Implementing neoliberalism converts them to borderless monocultures stripped down for exploitation.
A new multipolar world order is emerging driven by the vast majority of the world’s population. The Collective West is determined to be the defunct pariah clinging to a century past and the myth of its exceptionalism . It ignores the dictates of history and refuses to accept that geopolitics is always a work in progress… and must be civil and progressive.
I am a born pessimist which has its good sides and its not so good sides. As I see it, the entire world is being turned into one giant battle field with wars of all kinds - religious, racial, etc. It is a 'free for all' and, as usual, so many exploiting the situations. What a rot.
