The perilous birthing of the multipolar world
Doing what is essential at a critical turning point in the history of the world
To few realize we are at an essential and critical turning point in our history. When I say “our history” I refer to all eight billion of us from pole to pole. Outcomes and choices made now are going to project far into the future as our legacy to future generations. Where our failures are foregone conclusions we must not be so crass and stupid as to impose them on to future generations. We have an astounding responsibility to hold in check the powerful naysayers and forces to insure the transition is wholly successful.
Albert Einstein stated that if the the third world war is fought with nuclear weapons the fourth will be with sticks and stones. That time is upon us and too few people realize it. The expert commentators I follow warn that nuclear war is more imminent than it has ever been. I agree with them as there are powerful psychotic forces in the West desperate to cling to their greed, criminality and corruptions which have created this crisis.
The so called unipolar world has been a dark age of violence and criminality by a rogue superpower.
As a recent convert to progressive internationalism I do not speak for or against countries. I hope I can project the values learned from others that will insure planetary survival. A Fundamental tenet of this survival is we can no longer afford wars and the failed leadership and corrupted values that cause them. Humankind must speak and act in cooperation and reciprocity.
Ruinous ideologies like imperialism, neoliberalism, militarism, predatory capitalism and others must be tamed as they are root causes of the crisis we face now.
What makes the present situation so volatile and threatening is these ideologies have been allowed free rein in our societies where they are a cancer invading and shutting down the organs of our societies where democracy, decency and humanism are savaged and destroyed.
There is a critical complication and threat unique to the crisis. The rogue super power has acted with impunity for too many decades. Now it refuses to accept the consequences of its criminality, and the new reality there are legitimate powers emerging acting as a countervail to its megalomania. As it makes desperate attempts to attack the credibility of these emerging powers, it serves only to reveal and de-legitimize its own wicked agenda.
The key element of the multipolar world is having several power centers acting as countervails to others making it much difficult for any one country to go to war and dominate. The unipolar world has been a disaster as one rogue superpower has been free to do what it wants with impunity. Now a new equilibrium is emerging that will be beneficial all.
Politicians of the West are now suffering the bitter harvest sown by their predecessors. Once leaders of Western democracies, they sacrificed their countries to NATO. Supposedly a defense alliance but really an alliance for perpetual war, the colonization of Europe and the world. With the dubious threat of the USSR long gone and Cold War One over, NATO showed its true intent as the wolf pack for greater wars. The remaindered Russia became the designated nemesis/scapegoat/whipping boy for NATO’s global warfare.
In spite of incessant Western propaganda Russia has neither the capability or intent of being an imperialist power; especially so when we are seeing the death knell of racist imperialism that has ravaged the world for 400 years.
2000 years ago the Greeks discovered Democracy which was dormant until it was rekindled by the French and American revolutions. Now it has been murdered by ruinous ideologues with the complicity of traitorous politicians. Defunct Western democracies are no more than the fragmented remains of the ideologies and vested interests that control them.
Now we are seeing the chaos that ensues when Democracy is slaughtered in the market place.
When our governments become enemies of the people they lead, foreign leaders become our adopted de facto leaders; especially when they so eloquently petition for peace and diplomacy and warn us of the consequences of nuclear war. Then we must ask who in the West is listening where the blind lead the blind?
The escalation to nuclear war becomes all the more critical as the failing west is geopolitically, diplomatically and humanistically illiterate, speaking only the language of war and genocide, anarchy and chaos. The mindset of the psychotic megalomaniac.
Its ability to wage conventional war has waned over time and its impatience to settle issues conclusively makes it all the more likely it will use nuclear weapons preemptively. Now it is using unconscionable brinkmanship to render nuclear war inevitable. The concept of MAD—Mutually Assured Destruction— born in the 1960s, has never been more menacing than it is today .
George Kennan stated where we constantly prepare for war there will inevitably be war; further more we become slaves to war and empires destroying whole societies. Never more true than now as the world is suffering a pandemic of militarism and we vaingloriously celebrate the technologies created to kill and maim.
Western leadership is so petulant it must constantly vilify and show hostility to other foreign leaders and countries to distract from their own incompetencies and failure to deliver good government, peace and security. They are incapable of standing on their own merit. They are only capable of dealing with others through war and hostility. They are only capable of thuggery when survival of the planet demands mature statesmanship diplomacy and high levels of international cooperation.
It is a simple minded and archaic notion the world can simply be divided into good vs evil. It is equally pathological to claim “exceptionalism” as justification for compulsive barbarism.
There is a middle way the delinquent West has yet to learn to follow, which we can learn from the East, as the East can learn from the West.
Thanks for your post. It’s hard to see how the collective West can exit the Ukraine fiasco without losing face or risking nuclear escalation. The 30+ years of total economic, political, and military hegemony have come to an end, and during this time, they forgot how diplomacy works, a skill necessary for negotiating settlements despite conflicting interests. They burned all bridges behind, created false narratives, insulted, and underestimated their opponent, all while completely destroying Ukraine in the process.
Thanks for this important post, Robert.
It's terrifying that the whole western world is moving to the right, and that hard right candidates are leading in so many polls.
I was thinking about this last night and wondering how we get the people on the streets for Palestine encouraging a left vote, and I don't mean the hollowed out pseudo left like the Democrats or the Liberals here in Canada. Since voter turnout is so low, maybe it would just be a matter of getting those who don't vote to vote just this once because it's so important. I'd like to see this movement take off in all western countries: https://x.com/i/status/1800474513702023358
