The Collective West: Stuck in the 20th century
Delusional America sees war as its salvation when all it does is accelerate its destruction.
Talk of the collapse of Western Civilization has been around for decades. Books have been written about it, movies made and futurists make their periodic predictions of Armageddon, Apocalypse or both. So here it is in all its shock and awe.
We like to think we live in the invincible present when it is only a brief moment in time. The present can never be invincible as this world is now too complex, too busy, and change is on steroids. The future can intrude on the present on very short notice; especially when rogue superpowers start wars at the drop of a hat with no regard for consequences or morality. Things start going sideways quickly when we fail to consider planet earth is an integrated matrix with little elbow room for cretinous miscalculations and the demented passions of megalomaniacs.
There must be rule of law that applies to all.
Wars are calamitous events devastating millions and accomplish nothing except feed the insatiable appetites for money and power of the psychopathic ideologues who haunt the halls of government.
It has been suggested all politicians attending key government positions be subjected to compulsory psychopathic screening. Psychologists tell us psychopaths are attracted to government like black flies to a dead carcass. Unfortunately, psychopathy can infest whole societies with fear and loathing which we externalize on to other cultures making them scapegoats for our own failures. Psychopaths are parasites that act without any regard for consequences, while refusing to be accountable for their actions— This is what the Nuremberg War Tribunals(1945) were all about. Psychopaths have been with us throughout history.
A very good way for any civilization to get stuck in time and exercise its death wish is to become addicted to endless warfare. It is the killer of empires throughout history and will continue to be in the future. The British Empire spanned the globe a hundred years ago; now it is a colonized smoking train wreck. Hitler’s Third Reich was supposed to last a 1000 years but it was defeated in less than ten and 87 million people died in the process.
The greatest irony of empires is the Collective West contains an assortment of former imperialist empires that now exist as pitiful colonies of a present day empire; also in decline. Being colonized is also a very good way to get stuck in time as you live the empire’s existence, pay for its wars, share in its criminality, and essentially become a slave state and never a “partner,” as is fatuously claimed.
Every country must have tools for dealing with their counterparts on the international stage. The primary tool is diplomacy, devoted to establishing effective and mutually beneficial relations with other countries pursuing peaceful co-existence. War should the last tool used; but in our demented West its the first one out of the box.
Soon after World War II American diplomat and scholar George Kennan gave his government the above advice. It was a pivotal cautionary. The day would eventually arrive where the USA would have to reconcile the huge disparity between itself and Asia. For decades Asia, mainly China, would be a secondary threat to American hegemony, but now with its economic miracle it looms large on the world stage.
Though it is another subject for another time America’s greed and belligerence accelerated China’s economic miracle. Just as that same greed and belligerence has driven Russia and China into a daunting defense/economic alliance that is not only of benefit to themselves but counties in Eurasia and elsewhere. In spite of America’s violent dissent the multipolar world is emerging with gathering momentum.
Pursuant to Keenan’s advice and the presence of ideologues wanting both Russia and China crushed America became the warfare state and declared war on the world. It has spent the last seventy-five years conducting war leaving itself a spent force addicted to perpetual war as its only “diplomatic” tool. It is only capable of seeing the world in paranoid terms. It sees other countries large and small as hostiles that have to be tamed to its liking. It blithely claims ownership of the world when it speaks for only 4% of the world’s population, including its NATO vassal states the total comes to 12.6%.
Why is the Collective West Stuck in Time !
For the USA WW ll never ended. It was reconstituted to be America’s warfare state in pursuit of global hegemony.
War is never a solution. It is social calamity that only becomes more devastating as militarism becomes a global pandemic and weaponry becomes more sophisticated. As George Keenan pointed out war becomes inevitable for those constantly preparing for it.
Western leaders are completely oblivious to the reality that democracy in the West has collapsed, they and their predecessors facilitated the incremental collapse. Perpetual warfare is the hallmark of a totalitarian state.
To read the history of the US over the last hundred years it is blazingly obvious the intentions of good leaders have been systematically undermined and destroyed by powerful ideological unelected bureaucrats. The maintenance of a warfare state requires a rolling coup d’etat of lies and treachery to sustain it.
The ill-chosen ideology of Neoliberalism has prevailed over the Collective West for the last half century and has inflicted grievous damage to democracy and all the structures and institutions associated with it. It is a form of economic fascism destroying democracy and fragmenting societies. It is a catalyst for more and greater wars as political and economic elites become even less accountable for their actions. Neoliberalism has fact in created the New Aristocracy where politicians have become the dupes of the elites they are supposed hold to account.
America is one of the world’s great powers. It is a tragic to see it destroyed by incompetent leaders, psychopathic ideologues and waging wars it cannot win. There is a new multipolar world emerging and it has a valuable role to play; but only after it accepts that it is only one among many great nations. All must be working in harmony for the success of Humankind and the survival of the planet.
The onus is also on populations of the collective West to refuse to live under the constant tyranny of war and violence. We have come to accept it as the norm, but it can never be an entrenched norm. There must be remediation and this starts with restoring our commitment to democratic and socialist values and escaping from the sociopathy that has been imposed on our societies.
The rise and fall of empires is one of the immutable cycles of history we ignore so easily. History is our story and reflective of our behaviors, our success and failures. History shows much to our chagrin Humankind cannot maintain empires indefinitely. Their birth anticipates their decline and death as they are just mundane manifestations of human folly.
Delusional America sees war as its salvation when all it does is accelerate its self-destruction.
Chinese Chairman Mao is supposed to have stated..."the East wind will prevail over the West wind" and the winds are already shifting. No empire lasts forever and neither will the Western dominance and the sooner our Western 'civilization' accepts this reality and modifies its immoral behaviour, the better.
