America has the most brutal prison system in the world with the highest incarceration rate per capita of any country. The system has been privatized for profit so courts are charged with keeping jail cells full. In US and Canada solitary confinement is practiced regularly even though it is considered torture, just like cluster bombs and depleted uranium munitions are considered out of bounds but used anyway.
Too much of what is considered out of bounds is left to happen these days and it becomes moral lassitude.
Each of us see the world from a different perspective determined in many ways by where we live. I have lived on the cusp of the empire next door all my life which has always maintained a dominating presence. You might say it is like owning a cottage at a very busy global intersection, where we Canadians are nosy neighbors peeking over the fence.
The noise from the busy “intersection” is overwhelming, so overwhelming we become mesmerized and colonized to it. I have thought recently it would be very interesting to live in another part of the world just for a change in perspective, though it is a little late in the game for that. In these times, no matter where we live it is difficult to avoid the world coming to us, and being “too much”with us.
When we look at the world today we must ask what it is to be free. How much are we allowed? How much can we reasonably pursue? How much are we willing to give up?
Are we jailer or jailee?
In other words which side of the bars are we really on. When do we self-incarcerate and put ourselves behind bars, and maybe even put our whole societies behind the bars of delusional beliefs, ideologies, and self-imposed tyrannies.
I hold in contempt the the endless atrocities committed by the empire next door against the peoples of the world, how it has enslaved its own population to war , how it has let its social indicators sink to such alarming levels.
I hold my own country in contempt for its complicity in the crimes of the empire, and so flippantly giving up our own identity to be the mimic next door— when we could be a positive force in mitigating the empire’s insatiable appetites. Where we could be a true friend in good standing we are the hapless powder monkey to its wars.
I see pathos in both Washington and Ottawa. I see bungling hierarchies locked down as prisoners to their own failed machinations. They have put themselves behind the bars of ruinous ideologies, delusional ambitions, and worshiping false prophets. They are out of step with a world that is moving into a new multipolar era, with new constructs and values away from the despotism and wars of the 20th century.
Their revanchist view of the world where they claim to be the masters of the universe is totally fatuous when they only speak for only 13% of the world’s population and the wealth of the world is rapidly shifting in favor of the 87% majority; as it should. Wealth must be proportionate to the populations it must sustain, not skimmed off to the insatiable greed of self-indulgent elites.
The hegemonic ambitions of empires are both racist and fascist as they erase the cultures they occupy, robbing them of their wealth and self-determination. No single culture can be allowed to dominate the globe. Power can never be absolute. There must be a countervail and this is very reason the unipolar world is coming to an end and is so completely untenable. For the last half-century we have seen a bloody demonstration of why the world order can never be unipolar.
In the aftermath of WW ll America suffered an insurrection that has been ongoing. The American Dream was stolen by war mongering insurrectionists and the country made captive to their agenda.
That agenda is now in full collapse, democracy has been destroyed, totalitarianism has emerged, corruption endemic, and politicians have been reduced to facilitators of corporate wars on the world abandoning the peoples they are supposed to serve. The despotism and abandonment become more and more transparent as the blood just won’t wash out.
As they wage war on others they are captive to crippled addictive ideologies and false prophets with no regard for consequence, contingency or morality. Their ideology demands a hideous psychopathy. We live by the ideologies and prophets we choose, and bad choices, left accountable, operating in secrecy, behind steady barrages of propaganda and misinformation are the agents of ruin.
Too often ideology is the negation of common sense— and common sense —is the accumulation of acquired wisdom over whole life times and recorded history. Too often ideologies are the constructs of greed, unaccountable power and privilege, totalitarianism and a denial of fundamental realities.
Our elites like to lecture is us on realities when they speak from naked hypocrisies and corruptions. Where they should speak as exemplars they speak as drab power groupies. Rather being inspirational they are hoofers serving the vested interests that control them.
The plotters, the insurrectionists, have self-incarcerated themselves in their own failed machinations now serving only to create chaos and anarchy.
They have been so busy with global incarceration of others they now suffer a pathetic self-incarceration. Their ideologies no more than obscene graffiti on the walls of their cells.
The American Dream is still available but only for those willing to show contrition, atonement and the willingness to rebuild what was lost too many decades ago. Only for those willing to fully participate in a renewed multipolar world. Only for those that see sustainable peace loving co-existence is the planet’s only option. Only for those who feel a commitment to the well-being of future generations.
A marvellous summary, required reading, I salute you.
