Zero common sense, kakistocracy, a billion hostages to endless war
The will be no peace. Trump like Biden is an agent of chaos and we are hostages to the kakistocracy ruling the West-- government in full collapse by the least qualified and totally corrupted.
“You understand absolutely nothing about modern civilization unless you first admit that it is a universal conspiracy against all interior life.”— Georges Bernanos, French author and novelist
“A great civilization is not conquered from without until it has destroyed itself within.” —Will Durant, American historian, philosopher
“An American failure to manage its own transition to multipolarity will create more chaos and ignite a major war in the Middle East, not to mention a full blown war with Russia, and, eventually, China. An outlook that prioritizes avoiding conflict, not starting new conflicts, must replace nearly three decades of feckless leadership in foreign affairs. New thinking in defense and foreign policy should rank diplomacy and peaceful cooperation first over the use of military power.”—Colonel Douglas Macgregor, quoted from American Conservative
I am having what is known as a good retirement. Our ancient cottage on the river benches is our refuge from a world gone mad. I could just shut it all out but and pretend it is not there, but my investment in life and living is so deeply ingrained. My respect for common sense as my preferred ideology only deepens as I see it wrecked and abandoned in a thousand stupid ways.
It is a sad lament the culture and civilization I was so blessed to be born into with such great potential and promise is corrupting itself out of existence in a thousand stupid ways, a vortex of decline racing out of control, all through a lack of common sense. We think we can thrive when we ignore common sense with all our fancy ideologies, sophistry and worshiping false prophets in their naked criminality.
What is common sense? It is what we learn as toddlers, not to touch hot stoves, play with matches and avoid falling down stairs. As we grow older common sense becomes more mature, complex and instinctive as we learn the boundaries of living with others in our societies and the moral and ethical boundaries essential to our times . Living is to attend the perpetual schooling of common sense and human morality, regardless of more formal educations, buttressed against the lies, the betrayals and propaganda of our times.
Mark Twain is a heroic figure as he teaches us so much about life and living. His fame as writer, orator, journalist and inventor was that he had a deep understanding of people, human nature and what it is to be alive. He is famous for his quotes, one of my favorites being: "I have never let my schooling interfere with my education." A simple sentence that says so much. Formal education is important but our instinctive common sense and life experience are even more important especially when it comes to matters of morality— a very sticky issue at the best of times.
Evan Esar, like Twain, was also a 19th century writer and humorist:
"Statistics — the only science that enables different experts using the same figures to draw different conclusions."
"You are not fully dressed until you wear a smile."
"In a democracy, you believe it or not; in a dictatorship, you believe it or else."
Twain and Esar live on today as so many of their quotes and teachings are as pertinent now as when they were in their day. Esar’s third quote above has a profound pungency as we have gone from democracy to dictatorship. The “or else” is the criminality of our times.
At the top of the page “a universal conspiracy against all interior life” is just what we are experiencing now. As the external world(our societies) collapse we are forced inward into our interior life abandoned and betrayed. We are left full of rage and anger at what is being done to our societies. Our habitats of peace, security and civility are destroyed by the corruptions and moral bankruptcy of lesser souls.
Georges Bernanos saw a hundred years ago we were becoming the sum total of our corruptions and fading humanity, worshiping in the cathedrals of corporate wars for corporate profits and amusing ourselves to death.
We are seeing evil in its purest form as the endless slaughter of innocents. We are seeing the abject cowardice and immorality of the warmongers and their political accomplices as they are willing to ruin their own societies to satisfy their demented megalomania. They claim the enemy is across great oceans but it is them, their crippled souls.
We are inundated with voices from the past speaking the wisdom and common sense of times long past yet they go unheard. Objective truth and knowing history are the new heresies. Burning books is no longer necessary as we are buried under the weapons of mass distraction and a smug elitist complacency thoroughly infantilized by their ill-gotten power and privilege.
The collapse of Western Civilization has been anticipated for over a hundred years. Writers have been writing about it and a profusion of books published. Like all other civilizations there is no immunity from devolution. Civilizations are as temporal as the existence of every living creature on earth. They are like the setting of the sun or a new moon rising. Only the pathologically arrogant and insane believe they can defy the cycles of nature and human existence. Durations are determined by the amplitudes and constancy of human virtue.
The question on many peoples minds is Western Civilization committing suicide? The answer is yes if we continue to allow the vortex of decline to spiral out of control; the forever wars and ensuing social chaos left unchecked and appropriately challenged.
The reseeding of World War Two
We are hostages to a rolling insurrection dating back to the1960s, the decade of assassinations where anybody who stood for peace and the pursuit of the American Dream was terminated. With Kennedy, King and so many others gone, the warfare state and the empire were birthed and WW ll was reseeded with much more ambitious goals and the carnage even more spectacular. Hitler was defeated but fascism simply metastasized and moved further West.
We are seeing the sequel to WW ll where the battle field is global and Washington’s last desperate effort to lock down global hegemony is a pipe dream gone askew as it is exhausted from decades of too many wars, too much corruption, and the collapse of governance. The rolling insurrection is at a point of culmination and its most dangerous point as the war mongers are trapped in their own machinations, their refusal to show any contrition or take responsibility for their gross criminality. They are running on delusional diet of hubris, lies and violence. The warmongers are so delusional they are willing to cannibalize their own homelands and allies.
The greatest hostage taking ever
The 32 NATO member states comprise the West. International polls have shown over time NATO is considered the world’s leading terrorist organization. The population of the 32 member states is 956 million peoples, which is 12% of the world’s population, and we are all hostages to Washington’s war on the world.
Trump is just another in a long line of presidents who pimp for more and greater wars. War is the only language the Empire speaks.
The terrorists are wearing well tailored suits and gold watches, and we are the hostages. Their desperation is their fear and cowardice running from their common sense.
Excellent summation of where we find our selves. The system cannot be changed from the top down. The hard work necessary will come from the bottom up. The top offers shit sandwiches and calls it choice. Only when the masses refuse what's offered will we move toward positive change.
This is one of your best posts, and it is timely indeed. I am glad you didn't completely isolate yourself in what sounds like a lovely cottage.
