America's best kept secret
The neoliberal zombies with their close confrères, the yahoos, are determined to block the rationality and wisdom of the village elders.
"The illegal we do immediately; The unconstitutional takes a little longer" ~ Henry Kissinger, US Secretary of State under Richard Nixon
“America has no permanent friends or enemies, only interests"— Henry Kissinger
If a politician found he had cannibals among his constituents, he would promise them missionaries for dinner.—H. L. Mencken, America Journalist
Every decent man is ashamed of the government he lives under.
Following is one of my favorite poems . It is also one of the most shocking and depressing poems I have ever read. Shocking, because it was written over a hundred years ago in 1896, and thoroughly depressing because it seems politicians haven’t learned a damn thing since then, just as bad, if not worse.
Lampman had a short life, better known for his pastoral romantic poems and I wonder what allowed him to write such an incisive brutal assessment of what politicians were then and now ?
As If written the day before yesterday I hang on his every word filling in the names where they apply when he uses words like, “feverish, desperate, flippant and reckless.” They have very deep pertinence to our own times.
The poem prompted me to ask why is America hiding its best kept secret?
Read on,
The Modern Politician
by Archibald Lampman
What manner of soul is his to whom high truth
Is but the plaything of a feverish hour,
A dangling ladder to the ghost of power!
Gone are the grandeurs of the world's iron youth,
When kings were mighty, being made by swords.
Now comes the transit age, the age of brass,
When clowns into the vacant empires pass,
Blinding the multitude with specious words.
To them faith, kinship, truth and verity,
Man's sacred rights and every holiest thing,
Are but the counters at a desperate play,
Flippant and reckless what the end may be,
So that they glitter, each his little day,
The little mimic of a vanished king.
Secrecy has taken on a new meaning in these times as it is a pandemic used to hide the truth, manipulate the masses, and hide incompetence.
There is a joke about the US State Department — “they would make the wall paper in their offices TOP SECRET if they could find a way to do it.”
Then there are the voluminous archival papers put under lock and key for thirty years to give all the bad guys a chance to die off.
Governments create freedom of information legislation in a spirit of transparency and accountability, but when the documents arrive all the good stuff is redacted .
Needless to say decades of lack of accountability is the big reason we are in the mess we are today.
Whistleblowers in a truly democratic society are heroes, these days they are criminals. Julian Assange’s monumental “crime” was to tell what is really going on in the halls of government.
Hillary Clinton informed us that every politician must have two positions—on every issue—one private and one public. This is probably one reason she lost to Donald Trump.
Genocide Joe Biden has sunk the US presidency. He publicly gloated over blowing up the Nord Stream pipe line, bragged that the Ukraine war was really about weakening Russia, and wanting regime change in Moscow — meanwhile Russia has won the war, NATO is in disrepute, and Zelensky is retreating to one of his many villas.
Now I know you are waiting to hear what is America’s kept secret. Its free no strings attached. You can pass it on over the fence, flush it, or post it on Facebook if you so desire.
I came across the secret as a compulsive cross-border shopper, making daily virtual trips to my consult with my online sages. I live in Canada where there is heavy censorship and compulsive parochialism. I need to head south to get a fix on what is happening in the world.
Like every other great country America has its share of great minds, thinkers, scholars and journalists. Just a few examples are Michael Hudson, Jeffrey Sachs, Colonel Douglas Macgregor, Scott Ritter, Dr, Paul Craig Roberts and Mike Whitney . These are names that come quickly to mind, but there are a host of others. As I explore the labyrinth there are many more found . These are the true patriots the rational thinkers and the “village elders.” They speak for our humanist tradition and historical truths too easily slandered out of existence.
In indigenous societies the village elders rule on the weight of their wisdom, knowledge and experience. This is not true in American society where the neoliberal zombies have the country by the throat and are squeezing the life out it. It is a tragic, spectacle to watch, that has been racing out of control for too long. The same is happening in my country as neoliberalism hops over borders undetected.
It is a pitiful sight to see your next door neighbor burn their own house, and of course the out of control burn takes down other adjacent houses. There are no fire breaks and the waters of rationality in short supply.
America’s “village elders” are its best kept secret at a time they are needed most. They are voices heard but on the margins when what they say and think should be at center stage. Jeffrey Sachs’ presentation to the UN should have drawn national headlines, but it remains on the margins while the derelict MSM pumps out its bilious lies and propaganda.
The quotes from Henry Kissinger above show the psychopathic contempt empires and their advocates have for humanist and civil societal values. They are the poltroons operating in the shadow world subverting their nation’s well being, playing out the infantile fantasies of absolute power over all.
America’s delusional pursuit of absolute power over the world has become its death wish.
The quotes from H.L. Mencken echo Lampman’s poem as he too had an incisive understanding of how politics can become a black art especially when democracy is broken and accountability destroyed. In these dark times we are seeing just how important vigorous genuine democracy really is; where it collapses the pathos of barbarism takes over.
Until peace is restored the crisis only deepens and the fall of the empire is accelerated. The neoliberal zombies intentionally use war, anarchy and chaos as their weapons of choice as these are the barbaric tools empowering them. As long as they prevail political and social progress are blocked and critical issues preempted.
The neoliberal zombies with their close confrères, the yahoos are determined to block the rationality and wisdom of the village elders.
Just as America was created by the “Fathers” it can only be saved by its village elders and their sober rationalism and wisdom. War and barbarism are a deadly coalition of the neoliberal zombies and assorted yahoos. They are the enemy within.
