What defines the new underclass?
“a social class made up of people who are very poor and have very little power or chance to improve their lives”
Democracy is not just the right to vote, it is the right to live in dignity—Naomi Klein
When it comes to social class there are many criteria for who qualifies as upper class and lower. Underclasses are usually defined as those who are financially impoverished and live and dress accordingly. It is so easy to look down with condescension on the poor as if their poverty was voluntary and a personal failure. Unfortunately most of the impoverished are victims of circumstance and fate where we have powerful tools and tyrannies to manufacture poverty in pandemic and existential proportions.
Capitalism is an ideology incorporating the good, the bad and the very ugly.
It is good that industrial capitalism has since 1980 lifted a billion people out of poverty in China and India, 650 million of them in China.
It is bad that predatory corporate capitalism is the primary cause of the Ukrainian war as the actual motive of the war is to knock out Russia so that Western capitalists can loot Russia’s vast resources. The war has resulted in an estimated 600,000 dead Ukrainians and 10 million refugees fleeing to Russia and Western Europe at a staggering cost to Europe to assimilate the sudden influx. Europe has for a long been a haven for refugees from NATO’s indiscriminate habitual warfare.
It is bad the Middle East has been kept destabilized and impoverished by the oil wars of so many decades. Even now Israel is waging its futile war for control of the Middle East and the fate of Palestinians are “collateral” damage as the war escalates.
The vicissitudes of capitalism are many, varied, complex and historic and a proven means of creating vast wealth, but also dire poverty. We are at a point in history where the extremes of wealth, the abyss that separate the rich and poor are a global crisis.
Now we are seeing the moral poverty of both the political classes and and legacy media. Both have been bought and paid for. Neither politicians or the New York Times can be trusted as agents of the truth with their grotesque perversions of it.
We are suffering the legacy of too much money, power and privilege in the wrong hands.
Politicians are supposed to head autonomous governments representing the public interest, the common weal sustaining their nations as stable societies practicing peace order and good government. No longer so.
They are supposed to have a sense of noble obligation caring for their citizens and securing prosperous futures for their nations. No longer so.
Politicians attired in their impeccably attired business suits like to see themselves as members of the business class when they are no more pimps acting on their behalf fleecing the public purse.
Elections are supposed to present electorates with distinct alternatives as to which party gets to govern. No longer so. All parties have been singing from the neoliberal song for the past fifty years with Margaret Thatcher and Ronald Reagan as god parents. Thatcher was so bold as to proclaim “there is no such thing as societies”. This was her declaration of war, the class war, and the birthing of the I% where all wealth goes straight up and nations are impoverished by the rolling corporate coup d’etat sucking up their wealth.
Politicians now suffer split personalities (Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID)— elected by the peoples they serve the corporatist agenda that impoverishes and bulldozes their societies out of existence, using ideologies like war, militarism, predatory capitalism and neoliberalism.
They are evasive, dishonest, defensive and lacking any candor or real information. Antony Blinkin ( US Secretary of State) and Canada’s prime minister Trudeau are masters of bafflegab as they can natter on saying nothing of substance, leaving themselves looking foolish and discredited. US president Biden can’t put a sentence together without a teleprompter, while Russian President Putin holds two hour press conferences where he discusses policy in detail and shows a sound knowledge of history.
Becoming the new underclass…
Politicians fail to realize when they abdicated their sovereign powers to the neoliberal corporatist agenda, they may be financially richer but morally and ethically they are impoverished. They disempowered themselves to where they are vassals to the puppet masters pulling their strings. They become white-collar slaves as they betray the public they are mandated to serve. Once honorable members serving King and country they have become corporate pimps pilfering the public purse and waging endless wars.
Riding the gravy train of graft and corruption is so lucrative and addictive many hang on to where they are doddering zombies and the gerontocracy takes on very deep roots.
The public has always had good reason for being cynical toward politicians, now it is turning to blind rage. Too many politicians of the West are members of the criminal class up to and including being war criminals openly contemptuous of international law.
In the video below historian Niall Ferguson outlines how we are the Soviets now as they were in the 1980s. The USSR was on the verge of collapse. The country was bankrupt, people were drinking themselves to death, suicide was rampant and government paralyzed. Ferguson has all the charts, facts and figures to make his case.
Our quisling politicians are obsessed with vilifying and scapegoating Russia and China. But they should have done what both Russia and China have done: Spent the last thirty years rebuilding their economies to where they are now prosperous, expanding and building a more just world for all through BRICS. The US has spent the last fifty years waging wars, denigrating democracy and indulging in endless corruptions. Now we live the end result.
French philosopher Simone Weil stated long ago that political parties ultimately become totalitarian and that is the just what the US Democratic party has become. They hate Trump in panicked desperation because he is the intervener, blowing the whistle on their consummate decadence and criminality.
Western politicians betrayed their electorates and walked away from their mandates to deliver responsible and represenative government. Now they are the new underclass, impoverished in so many novel ways.
Afterword
Watch this very important video where Niall Ferguson delivers brilliant insight into our present situation.
As I see it...the entire white Western world is turning 'underclass'. Honesty used to be the best policy but these days, it is DISHONESTY that'll get you places. :-(
Not only that, BC's "NEW" electronic election apparatus cannot be transparent and provide secret ballots to all!
You may remember, one of my first posts described a voting strategy that didn't select any candidates (because none were suitable) on the ballot but left it blank, then deposited into the ballot box.
That cannot be done anymore! This years BC election, being electronic, votes are processed by machine that DOES NOT recognize an unmarked ballot. What happens instead is that the ballot reader will spit it back out with the message "Ballot Not Marked" right in front of an election officer!
So much for a secret ballot!
Very easy now to identify everyone that votes as all votes are time-stamped. So from the crossing off one's name from the voters list, which is on a computer, that allows an election officer hand you a ballot with a number on it, plus the time stamp, and the ballot reading machine also is time-stamped there goes the non-corrupt election process.
Where were the international observers?
Further, it's been two weeks since I laid out my concerns to Elections BC... crickets.
