“In the preservation of independence there is no alternative to vigilance. Independence is indivisible. You cannot have in tact here and in tatters there. It is as absolute as pregnancy. If a nation is not independent it is dependent and other appellations fit equally well satellite, fellow traveler, or even lackey, as Churchill once called Mussolini”— James M. Minifie, Peacemaker or Powder monkey.
Many years ago I came to the conclusion I was living in the Age of Denialism. Even then I knew enough history that the arrogant west was a living a duplicity that would eventually rip it apart. There were huge discrepancies in what was being said and what was being done. Too much crap being shoveled under the carpets in the halls of power. Too many reassuring lies were prevailing over inconvenient truths. As corporate power rose governments were incrementally in full retreat from governance becoming bag persons for the vested interests they served. Now the retreat is complete and we are smothered in the chaos and anarchy that follows.
This essay might also be titled the colonization of the west at the behest of the parasitic empire. I am uniquely positioned to view the spectacle over time living in a colony of the empire, just next door—a wide window on two very different countries and at same, suffering the same fate. Both are colonized by the empire gorging itself on the wealth and resources of its homeland and every other country it colonizes.
As James M. Minifie points out above, colonization is the act of giving up your sovereignty and independence. It begins in half measures and ends up being in total as we see now.
When the USSR collapsed in 1989 and NATO continued to exist and expand. Alarm bells should have gone off around the world. As many of us suspected it was nothing to do with being a defense alliance, actually serving as a colony of Washington, and a rampart to keep the remaindered Russia at bay— a strategic buffer zone. NATO also was utilized as a cash cow to defray the costs of empire and the agency for policing the empire.
Washington now dominated a unipolar world seeing it had carte blanche to pursue complete global hegemony. With 9/11 in 2001 it declared war on the world and President George Bush Jr. declared, “you are either with us or against us”( it has been suggested 9/11 might have happened earlier had there been a Republican president in office?) Since 9/11 an estimated 4.5 million people have died in the empire’s wars/genocides where most fatalities are civilian.
Colonized countries come to live the existence and values of the empire imposed on them. Democracies are gutted by the expediencies of the empire. The wealth and well being of colonized nations are expropriated by the imperialist ideologies of empire, ranging from perpetual war, rampant militarism, predatory capitalism and neoliberalism. True history is slandered out existence by a traitorous propagandist media.
As colonization becomes more deeply embedded and democratic processes and institutions are weakened governments lose their ability to function effectively. They become groupies to the empire and vulnerable to its every whim and corruption.
Empires have no friends or allies, all are grist for the empire’s mill. Who would have thought European NATO vassal states could be so easily led into a proxy war against Russia ruining their economies, and destroying their abundant and cheap energy supplied by Russia?
Who would have thought that Russia was so well prepared for war, so effectively protected from economic sanctions, and would win so decisively?
Whoever thought NATO’s logistical support for its Ukrainian proxy would be so haphazard and scatter-brained setting Zelensky up for defeat— one is left to wonder if the Ukraine president ever has the notion he was a dupe of the empire? No more hugs from the perfidious Uncle Joe.
Since WW II we have had several powerful ideologies working in the background of western societies, largely undetected by a diligently controlled narrative aided by public passivity and weapons of mass distraction from too much TV to a propagandist media.
Under the crushing weight of so many ideologies working simultaneously it is little wonder the fragile flower of democracy has been crushed out existence. It remains the essential ideology as it is social where most others are sociopathic. When democracy is crushed so are whole value systems, and the ethics and moralities that go with them, including courts and justice systems, freedom of speech and personal liberties.
It is no coincidence the collapse of western democracy has coincided with the collapse of western morality into total lawlessness.
Common sense is also collateral damage as politics and ideologies are too often triumphant over common sense.
As societies are colonized, the war mongering ghouls who betray them are infantilized by their compulsive greed for power and money, their sociopathic disregard for the rights of others, the total disregard for the consequences of their despotism, and their wanton slaughter of human lives. Their pure evil reserves a special place in Hell for them.
They are the horsemen of the apocalypse here and now.
I strongly suggest the word 'democracy' be no longer used...'the will of the people' has been usurped long, long time ago. This word is being used to intimidate us, to keep us in line.
