The Beaching of Democracy in the Declining West.
In times of tyranny, what is most imperiled is rarely discussed.
We live in the age of the controlled narrative. It is pure propaganda dictated by self-serving vested interests. Present times take the measure of our societies and the level of consciousness we are willing to enjoy and pursue.
Denialism comes easily especially when there are so many forces in post modern times that encourage and promote it. We live in an age of mass distraction where too much of great importance simply gets shoveled under the carpet. To often the stuff that gets shoveled are the big and most demanding issues. It is human nature to prefer reassuring lies as opposed to the inconvenient truths.
Denialism is catalyzed especially when powerful vested interests are present to drive their self-serving agendas and compliant governments are willing to cater to these agendas without regard for consequences or their obligations to the public they are supposed to serve.
At this point in time political elites in the Collective West have shown conclusively they are willing to cater to the vested interests that have come to own them, and in turn alienating and disenfranchising the public.
The public sense the betrayal and declining quality of our democracies, but the reason for our declining democracy and poor performance of government politics eludes us.
One reason it eludes us is the media is in collusion with the corporatists who actually govern. The media is corporate owned in service to their masters. In an age of information where communications are very sophisticated and ultimately propagandist, mainstream media tailors its content to the corporate agenda, especially so when it comes to militarism and warfare. Agents for the status quo have huge arsenals of weaponry to control what the public knows and thinks; not barring the most extreme media weapon of all—inducing social chaos and endless weapons of mass distraction.
We are in an age where a lie told often enough becomes accepted truth.
Another reason is the stealth neoliberal ideology introduced forty years ago. It vaulted business and corporations into positions where they rule over government and governments serve as caterer’s to corporatist wars and their delusional hegemonic ambitions.
Historians, thirty or forty years from now, with golden hindsight, may well attribute the ubiquitous presence of television and cell phones as chief causes of the decline and fall of western civilization; along with perpetual wars and a few too many ruinous ideologies.
What we have seen over the last fifty years is the crushing of democracy as we have recklessly driven our ships of state on to rocky shores where they are left to rust out unattended. Where democracy is supposed to be the cornerstone of Western Civilization we have abandoned it through political lassitude, lack of due diligence, and most of all, failure to identify and hold to account the political and economic forces who are contemptuous of the public interest and the future of our societies.
The abandonment of democracy is to embrace chaos.
Democracy is a process where issues must be debated, deliberated over, scrutinized and only acted on when a consensus has been reached— and where common sense and wisdom are part of the blend. To abandon democracy is to abandon the virtues and self-discipline it requires; political and intellectual integrity, honesty, due deliberation, and accountability, and most of all responsible government.
Responsible government means to be responsive, take responsibility and a willingness to be held accountable.
Accountability is the very essence of democracy. Where it is absent governance is plundered by ideologues and vested interests serving their nefarious agendas. Politicians become self-demoting functionareis to the power elites they serve— most dangerously so when it comes to matters of war vs peace.
Where the decision to go to war used to require the approve of legislatures, the decisions now are made at the executive level under the influence of vested interests and unelected ideologues.
When NATO went to war against Russia on February 24th, 2022, it was not the democratic decision of the 30 member states. It was a colonized pack mentality catering to the wishes of their imperial master. Where countries like France, Britain Germany and Italy as prominent NATO member states should have spoken out in defense of Europe’s best interests they observed an obedient silence.
When NATO member states rubber stamped Washington’s war against Russia sacrificing Ukraine as the convenient proxy NATO leaders committed an unconscionable betrayal of their populations and the integrity of their democracies. For Europe to go to war against its chief trading partner and energy supplier served only to show how deeply colonized it is, and that their democracies only exist as sad pretensions.
The economic backfire of failed sanctions against Russia has put Europe in a economic and social crisis.
The haunting question for the Collective West is whether or not it can rejuvenate itself or is it past the point of remediation in its drunken lust for war, power and obscene wealth?
Rest assured, where democracy is in insidious decline war and social unrest prevail.
The first step forward is to take back our democracies.
In times of tyranny, what is most imperiled is rarely discussed.
Chines Chairman Mao is supposed to have once stated...'the East wind will prevail over the West wind'...and so it starts to look like. The pendulum is slowly swinging the other way and oh, boy...we ain't liking it.
