Now I ask you, who wants to live in an old missile silo converted to luxury windowless apartments a hundred feet under the ground? Above is the main entrance to a Cold War Atlas missile silo somewhere in Kansas USA. It has been completely converted to self-sustaining living quarters for the very rich. You might best describe it as a completely self-sustaining subterranean luxury apartment building. It is designed to survive nuclear winter lasting too many very long years, with no days off.
The tour guide takes great pleasure in showing off all the amenities. The blast doors each weigh 8 tons. Once you get inside the circular concrete parkade has seven-digit parking privileges. There are luxury apartments to suit every client. One level mimics a Caribbean beach, with a sky of painted concrete. It is still an over-dressed cave where the salty breezes never blow and the sun never shines.
79 years ago US President Harry Truman authorized the gratuitous bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. It appears the world is condemned for ever to live under the threat of nuclear war. Now the threat is more imminent than ever.
So who wants a survivalist existence of canned goods and camera pictures on concrete walls depicting nuclear winter?
In 1958,129 Atlas Missile silos were constructed (as above). These were decommissioned in 1965 and replaced with 400 newer Minuteman missiles sites, to be replaced with a further upgraded Sentinel Minuteman in 2029, all part of a1 trillion dollar, 30 year upgrade announced by Barack Obama before he left office in 2017.
It doesn’t seem to matter that we are now in the age of hypersonic missiles, launched from mobile launchers, so fast and so highly maneuverable they are very difficult to shoot down. 400 Minuteman missiles are part of a triad including nuclear submarines and strategic bombers which smells like pretentious out of control military extravagance and why the USA is staggering under an unpayable debt load.
This in itself explains why America is so over committed to war. Military planning and expenditures are projected well into the future. The same is true of the F-35 JSF which has a projected working life of forty years and its successor is already on the drawing boards. Wars are made to happen to keep the MICC on full boil sucking up the wealth of nations.
It is a sad comment on our societies that doomsday preppers use former missile silos as housing formerly housing the missiles that instill the social fear and paranoia of future calamities.
Instead of getting rid of nuclear weapons we turn ourselves into bunkered pure blind moles.
The bunkered mentality
Defensive attitude— Where there is no trust in the systems of governance populations are stressed, cynical, and suspicious. Governments are incapable of exercising peace, order and good government and are compulsive, duplicitous, hypocritical and secretive rendering populations hostile and alienated.
Isolation— Where a society is loaded down with disintegrating values and lack of confidence in their leadership they retreat into isolated enclaves where anger and cynicism prevail.
Fear and Paranoia — In the face of constant wars, genocides and the wild incompetencies of government there is diminished hope for promising futures and cultures of fear are created. Along with the fact governments are more than willing to instill fear and paranoia as social controllers.
Hatred and Racism — To accommodate wars and violence against other nations Western Civilization has been thoroughly to programmed to hate and fear other cultures. Where elites of the West see themselves as masters of the universe they are proving themselves no more than white collar criminals and war mongers.
Resistance to Change— As the vortex of decline races out of control hopelessness becomes more deeply rooted and the willingness and ability to change more elusive. Social indicators like declining life expectancy, suicide, alcoholism, drug addiction, and poor health rise.
A bunkered society spawns the frequent taunts of crazy, insane , psychopathic, sociopathic, sociocidal, incompetent, authoritarian, totalitarian directed at politicians as they betray their publics and pimp for the vested interests controlling them. Peace is no longer the preferred state of our existence but a brief intermission between wars— corporate wars for corporate profits.
It has come to my attention so called “Western Civilization” is no longer worthy of the name as we are led by self-denigrating morons suffering arrested development. They claim to be peers of the realm, as the new aristocracy committing one atrocity after another.
The word civilization does of course imply civility, decent behaviors, respect for the rights of others and a regard for the rule of law applicable to all, all sadly lacking in crisis proportions.
Harry Truman was the president famous for the sign on his desk,“ The buck stops here.” Unfortunately the buck never did stop there and every president since has been pushing buttons; where every president has the“ nuclear football” always close at hand.
Eisenhower and every president since have been the dupe of high powered generals, bureaucrats and lobbyists wanting to wage war. Eisenhower warned of the rise of the (MICC Military Industrial Congress Complex) in his farewell speech of 1960 to no avail and no accountability. Kennedy was assassinated as he was the one president who attempted to hold the MICC accountable. Similarly, Trump is another “wild card” having escaped two assassination attempts.
As we wait on tenterhooks for his inauguration his presidency promises to be both tenuous and stormy given the collapse of democratic processes and pervasive corruptions. Any meaningful reforms are going to be vigorously opposed by well entrenched vested interests. His presidency has great potential, like others before, to be a pro forma dead letter.
All of Kennedy’s successors have been programmed as their allegiance to the warfare state comes first, last and foremost.
For whatever reasons pundits the world over don’t want to acknowledge we are in World War Three. We are by any standard. It is East-vs-West. It is military, economic and hybrid. It is truly global. The open question is how much further will it be escalated by the moronic West. Not content with dominating the Western hemisphere it fatuously claims ownership of the whole world. When in fact, it is not even capable of managing its own affairs in a peaceful, competent and lawful manner.
It is strange that the very rich are willing to buy three million dollar bunkers with all the trappings of wealth as mere imitations of their former lives as bunkered survivalists living a smothering claustrophobia.

The Doomsday Preppers was a National Geographic TV show aired for two seasons and ultimately cancelled in 2014, for, as above, for shining a light on the extreme views of individuals on the fringes of society.
The petition simply muddies the issue and blames the victims. Preppers are a by product of a violent war mongering militarist society that has thoroughly inculcated its population with survivalist bunkered mentalities.
I was one of the children of the fifties taught to get under our desks if the bomb goes off. Of course what the blast doesn’t vaporize and kill radioactive nuclear winter will, 70 years later and counting.
Hitler retreated to a bunker only to end his life. Now the bunkers are more numerous, more luxurious- the failure more wretched, the ignorance more willful.
The bunker mentality isn’t just about safe havens in dark unpredictable times. It is a ruinous mentality, a commodity, a mindset successfully marketed over too many decades. There is no salvation in hording guns, waging wars or building million dollar bunkers. It is defeatism par excellence fomented by toxic souls chasing ruinous ideologies.
The bunker mentality does itself become a ruinous ideology as we shut ourselves off from the rest of the world that as much to offer us . The West is dominated by the practitioners of greed, envy, war and a psychopathic ethnocentrism where excessive wealth, power, privilege and corruption have infantilized them. They are reincarnations of the late Roman emperors —Caligula, Commodus, Nero, Caracalla, Elagabalus— blind to the tyrannies they perpetuate and the inevitable decline of empires.
We have to ask ourselves when did living in claustrophobic bunkers become an acceptable substitute for walking in the woods. The idiot savants are killing our golden age.
