Sustained Chaos- Another weapon among too many
The empire, its adherents and its suppressed populations no longer have immunity from the chaos and devastations we have imposed on others.
“Too many people of the West think that wars fought on other continents do not impact our lives. They have impacted our lives for decades and the impacts are only going to become more transparent and devastating for all.”
I grew up in the post war years in a time of great promise, affluence and opportunity. I have often referred to my generation as the “peak generation” as we were born into an age filled with promise and the fulfillment of the American Dream— which easily spilled over the borders into Canada. Peace and prosperity were the order of the day.
My parents generation were also beneficiaries as they lived through the “dirty thirties” and the great war to build a better life for themselves and live out their lives in secure retirements.
I am now more acutely aware than ever I was born into a dominant society with all the benefits and securities afforded there in. But as I look back over my life I realize even in those halcyon days there were storm clouds gathering; especially after retroactively revisiting those times with History in the witness box.
When the turn of the century was approaching I contemplated whether it was just a nominal centenary event or a change of epochs. Looking back it was indeed a change of epochs. I was approaching my senior years, and the civilization I was part of was sliding into decline. The civilization I was born into had two faces, the rise and the fall, light going to dark, social equilibrium dissolving into chaos.
Where I am at peace with growing old with an acute appreciation of having had a blessed life, the spectator, but never the victim, I have an abiding anger at what we have become. In such a short span of time how we could go from lands of great promise to such compulsive sustained chaos? Too much war is the immediate answer, but of course it is much more complicated.
I also ask myself how much of this chaos is a deliberate calculation and how much of it is inadvertent. It is an important distinction to make as we must establish culpability, and ultimately accountability.
Failure of accountability is in itself a fundamental issue looming over all others in explaining the chaos of our times.
Life is really all about doors we open and doors left closed; and the consequences of opening the wrong one, for the wrong reasons. Who we allow as door persons is also a critical factor, so too are the processes and motivations that facilitate the openings and closings.
Doors opened deliberately that never should have been opened, (a random selection where there are many more):
Establishment of the US military industrial complex in the 1950’s
Twenty year wars in both Vietnam and Afghanistan, firmly establishing the warfare culture.
The mass assassinations/insurrection of the 1960’s which was the killing off of the peace movement and the consolidation of the US as a warfare state ( See Seven Days in May).
9/11, 2001 to justify the war on terrorism, further consolidate the cultures of fear, and intimidate Western populations to giving up further rights and freedoms.
The 2003 sacking of Iraq based on lies which was the pivotal atrocity among many against Middle Eastern countries.
2022 NATO’s war against Russia sacrificing Ukraine as its proxy
2023 Genocide in Gaza
Where deliberate chaos is sown, inadvertent chaos and consequences ensue. Can we identify and quantify these? Are they treatable controllable malignancies? These are our insidious chaoses and inadvertent consequences left to rip through our societies.
Here I include:
Secretive ideologies like neoliberalism, imperialism, and globalization any discussion of which is kept on the margins of society and never exposed as a part of our political dialogue, surreptitiously acted on by straw dog politicians and economic elites.
A propagandist mainstream media controlling the public dialogue and suppressing societal consciousness.
The manufacture of a steady stream of weapons of mass distraction, consisting of unimportant and trivial issues.
Controlling the “narrative,” is paramount where there are Machiavellian forces dedicated to controlling what we see, hear and think.
The collapse of democracy into what becomes inverted totalitarianism.
In the 1950’s US Secretary of State John Foster Dulles coined the term “brinkmanship” as a form of intimidation to threaten other countries with war and sanctions if they did not comply with America’s demands. This was but another form of sustained chaos as a long list of countries existed in an apprehended state of insurrection if they did not follow Washington’s dictates. A long list of countries have suffered from Washington’s bullying in the form of regime change, military invasion and ruinous sanctions; never knowing peace and security but living under the constant threat of war.
It was John Foster Dulles who said, “Get control of a country’s economy and you own it.” (1957)
With the year 2024 fast approaching, we live in a world where the sustained chaos is no longer confined to countries, continents, or civilizations. It is completely fluid, global and threatening to all, jumping from one country to another as the depraved empire contemplates opening even more fronts. In a world so populated, and so highly economically and culturally integrated consequences devastate everybody.
Too many people of the West think wars fought on other continents do not impact our lives. They have impacted our lives for decades and the impacts are only going to become more transparent and devastating for all.
The empire, its adherents, and its suppressed populations no longer have immunity from the chaos and devastations we have imposed on others. The world has become a very “compressed file.”
The present chaos is not just about too many of the wrong doors opened, it is a deliberately sustained chaos—chaos weaponized—to forego the day when they must take responsibility for their wicked behaviors and those of their predecessors.
Crises really are the end result of too much shit shoveled under carpets in the bleak halls of power and the unwillingness to acknowledge it. It is there for all to see and has to be shoveled.
The culpability of Western leaders is their unwillingness to address the tyranny fostered by their predecessors, their role in it, and their cowardly refusal to remediate the crises and the chaos.
They are hunkered down straw dogs sporting flame throwers, throwing cans of gasoline when they should be manning up with water hoses. They suffer an inexcusable sociopathic disregard for the consequences of their actions.
The chaos of the present is directly proportionate to the number of doors opened, that never should have been opened; especially in such quick succession as driven by demented ideologues, their reckless predatory capitalism and their wanton disregard for human life and social equilibrium.
The return to sanity is an essential equilibrium and peace. The consequences are going to be with us well into the future and only become more daunting as the chaos continues to envelope us.
Western elites are the pyromaniacs presiding over the conflagration they created; this is their day of reckoning, the deadly consequences, the chaos of their manufacture. The reconciliation, the remediation that will ensue is their ultimate condemnation as traitors to their societies, and the straw dogs of endless war. A pitiful legacy.
1945 was a false peace for Western Civilization. 80 years later the empire is collapsing and peaceful co existence is the only option.
The late, Henry Kissinger is reputed to have quipped: “to be an enemy of the United States is dangerous, but to be an ally is fatal”
Read here how the narrative is manipulated
“It is about the West’s increasing difficulty of keeping the rest of the world weak, intimidated and subdued through the use of its own atrocities. U.S. military failures in Afghanistan, Syria and Ukraine — and the growing self-assurance of Russia and China — are marking out new limits to Washington’s supremacy.”— Johnathan Cook
Hello Robert Billyard, I tend to like the tone of your thoughts. Many other sites use stronger language to condemn, and "expose the empire". It is a litany of atrocities. It becomes the way to "crowd-source" negative emotion. By your and my "knowing about it", nothing happens. So we are being asked to build a changed world, moving forward from one failure to the next.
What can you build out of repeated failure? Only resignation.
This (my new site) is a experiment, only a month old. I ask, what can we build from the foundation of success? So I have to focus the subject matter on personal choices that can (and do) make a difference in daily living.
✓What can I do to limit my susceptibility to reaction?
✓Is reaction and emotionalism really my source of energy and power for getting things done?
✓Do I really get along with my wife? (or husband?)
✓Do I respect my family and my local community?
If I can't even freely make choices in the personal and the local level, what right do I have to talk about international relations or the "evils" in the world? Am I just attempting to lay my hang-ups on the global environment? Am I just seeking agreement to feel a part of some group, (with similar hang-ups)?
Here I use "Hang-Ups" as the belief in faulty definitions. It's false cause, it's Not defective DNA. So then we can talk about definitions, and what do we REALLY KNOW?
You start by admitting a few things, which is surely the first step:
"I am now more acutely aware than ever I was born into a dominant society with all the benefits and securities afforded therein." "The civilization I was born into had two faces, the rise and the fall, the light going to dark, social equilibrium and dissolving into chaos."
All societies (so far) rise and fall.
YOU ASK:
"I also ask myself how much of this chaos is a deliberate calculation and how much of it is inadvertent." It is called the "Oops Theory of Governments". We tried so hard; but darn-it, something upset the apple cart! This Oops-Theory should be the first article in the US constitution.
I go strictly with Roosevelt's quote: "If something happened: You can be darn sure it was planned that way." Results are the only allowable measure. What people say is meaningless. Therefore propaganda can no longer penetrate. Public servants should be prosecuted by their lack of results, not by "Laws" that seek out extenuating circumstances.
You say, people open doors. A president can run a war as a sideline hobby. You ask "Are there are treatable controllable malignancies?"
Not by any medicine that I know of. Not by the miracle of "Democracy". So-called democracy is the main (revolving) door. It is the door through which money controls politics. (I am not advising any alternative.) I am just starting out by admitting a few things.
You say: "establish culpability, and ultimately accountability." NOT IN OUR SYSTEM! There are the proxies that activate the atrocities, and there are proxies (whipping boys) that take the punishment. Anything else is an unfounded pipe-dream.
America: is so many "nice people", and what they sincerely want is the insurance that nobody can take away their privileged lifestyle. That always took gunboat diplomacy, so why should it be any different now? Now to contain all the world-wide "threats", big think tanks are saying that America will reinstate the military draft within 2 years. Will that be a wake-up call? I think the oldsters will swallow it, and force it on the young.
Well, enough for now, lots to talk about.
.
The chickens are coming home to roost. Funny how that keeps happening throughout history.
Great post. Please do more of them.
