Slapping down the Mad Hatter-Canadian Style
The coming federal election is a great way to send the Mad Hatter a message

If America’s founding fathers were around today they would be hauling out the strait- jackets, calling in the US Cavalry and reading the riot act. Unfortunately they are not and nobody appears to be up to the job. In spite of their many cautionaries and admonitions all hell has broken loose in America and beyond its borders. There is no containment where their should be arraignment. The gawking masses and officialdom look on in stunned silence as the Mad Hatter goes even madder.
It seems he wants to re-fight the war of 1812 all over again. Canada, suddenly, by his inordinate decree, becomes the 51st state, that it was never meant to exist and we are all meant to rollover and play dead. Ball and shot won’t get the job done in these modern times as this is a trade war where tariffs are the weapons and everybody on every side shoots themselves in the foot, there are no winners, just losers, just higher taxes and the Hatter goes madder.
It just so happens Canada is about to have a federal election which is an opportune time to slap down the Mad Mad Hatter and show an astounding solidarity. This means voting for the incumbent government regardless of partisan differences. Once and for all we must show solidarity and a genuine concern for the public interest, the common good so roundly abused and undermined in these bleak neoliberal times, and recommit to our home and native land.
In these torrid times it is utter foolishness to elect a new untried government with untried leadership. This is especially so when the opposition party, CPC, has close ties to the Republican party in the USA which is also that of the Mad Mad Hatter. Further more it is still the party of the fearsome Stephen Harper, so feared and loathed by Canadians we granted the juvenile Justin Trudeau a resounding victory in 2015.
The feckless liberals now have a new leader who is urbane, articulate, intelligent and in touch. He has the demeanor and gravitas of a credible leader and no doubt our best option in this time of crisis. In these neoliberal times of narrowed choice and too much left to chance he is at very least the “lesser evil” with a potential for doing better. There’s always the hope that he can be guided away from the entrenched norms of neoliberalism and the relentless pursuit of corporate wars for corporate profit."
This election is a magnificent opportunity for Canadians to show our declasse political apprentices Canada matters and it is no time for slovenly platitudes and two-bit sound bites.

Lately I can't help but feel that elections, no matter where, are nothing but a show to keep us, the public, away from paying attention to what really needs attention.
