Off-Ramp to Peace and Prosperity
Sherman and his horny mistress Maria took the wrong off-ramp. The morons in Washington with willful ignorance refuse to even acknowledge the off-ramps. They are in a drag race to the hubs of Hell.
The question remains how many off-ramps is Washington allowed to ignore before it blows up the whole friggin’ world?
An all time favorite movie of mine is Bonfire of the Vanities, based on the book by Tom Wolfe. It is a drama about ambition, racism, social class, politics, and greed in 1980s set in New York City.
Sherman McCoy, played by Tom Hanks, picks up his sexy mistress Maria, played by Melanie Griffith, at John F. Kennedy International Airport. On the drive into Manhattan they take the wrong off-ramp leading to an incident that will change their lives and those of many others. Henceforth author Wolfe weaves a compelling tale both tragic and comic, as the characters cremate themselves on the pyres of their vanities. It is a stunning tale of imperious conceits, arrogance and narcissism.
All this time later we are seeing a sequel to Wolfe’s masterpiece on a much grander scale with devastating global consequences.
The difference being that we have governments refusing to take any off-ramp, speeding down the freeway to the hubs of Hell and blowing up everything in passing.
