"Let them eat cake..." Rhymes with Contempt in Post Modern Times
The resplendent decadence of our times
“As the story goes, it was the queen's response upon being told that her starving peasant subjects had no bread. Because cake is more expensive than bread, the anecdote has been cited as an example of Marie-Antoinette's obliviousness to the conditions and daily lives of ordinary people.”— Wikipedia
Writers at Encyclopedia Britannica hold out the nerdy possibility that French Queen Marie Antoinette never said her most famous anecdote. Even so they record that it was used prior to her time by others. Idiomatic expressions circulate widely through our languages waiting for some famous person to make them truly famous and passed on to later generations.
Said or not said by her, the essential point was that it was very true in her time and even more so in our time. Versailles was the era of resplendent decadence when the French aristocracy indulged their every whim. Social inequality was comparably as bad then as it is now— with much more devastating consequences. The decadence and self-indulgence of our zombie politicos sets a new standard generously subsidized by endless barbarism.
Antoinette’s “obliviousness to the conditions and daily lives of ordinary people” is a given. Does it just stop there? How much arrogance and contempt can be read into what she said?
Therein lies the difference between then and now. The demonic “aristocrats” of today are willfully and knowingly saying ”let them eat cake” over and over again in their sociopathic brutality. It is the mantra they chant to themselves. Their contempt of the populations they are supposed to serve has become palpable.
The alienation existing now between those in charge of governing and those governed is at a crisis level in the West. Governments have lost their legitimate right to govern when all they can deliver is war, anarchy, social chaos, and lies, lies and more lies.
Russiagate was a fraud perpetrated to vilify Washington’s favorite scapegoat and whipping boy, Vladimir Putin. Ziongate though is the real thing as Netanyahu and his sullen gang of genocidal thugs take over American foreign policy with Genocide Joe presiding as cheerleader and bag man.
Fraudulently, Netanyahu claims to speak for all Jews when he only speaks for the Zionist insurrectionists. Fortunately orthodox rabbis are speaking out and saying this will not be done in our name.
The Canadian government lives in the fantasy world of claiming the Chinese are interfering in Canadian affairs when it should start intervening in Canadian affairs. It wasn’t long ago the present government was sucking up to the Chinese for every investment dollar they could get. In reality Canada is a neoliberal satrap headquartered in Washington and another cheerleader for Zionist criminality. As the present prime minister turns a blind eye ,his predecessor is a devoted and indiscreet Zionist and war profiteer…
Genocide Joe’s presidential run isn’t going well as he is playing to empty halls and cat calls. He isn’t really running for the presidency but stumbling toward the finish line of first term and a mandatory retirement that should have happened 15 years ago. He’s the guy who partied too late and now being handled out the door.
Where Biden is giving us octogenarians a bad name Lindsay Graham is an ill-tempered babe of 68 years, spouting revision history, and another grungy ill-tempered war mongering senator. Butcher Boy Netanyahu has cast a spell over Washington bringing out the worst in the worst. While lunatic senators want to drop nuclear bombs on Gaza, sensible students are going to jail for demanding peace and human decency.
Graham is but one more example of the political dead wood haunting the halls of power in Western governments.
It is painfully obvious Western governments have lost any ability to renew and revitalize leadership that is relevant and willing to address the real issue of our times. Instead they wallow in times past and are slaves to war and ruinous ideologies. Their self-righteous hysteria and incoherent policies are the very reason there must be radical reform, a return to democracy, and return to the socialism that is the very essence of our being….
The West is being ruined by a war mongering pathocracy.

Marie Antoinette was in her time the epitome of resplendent decadence. At the age of 38, January 21st 1793, after a thoroughly debauched life, she was guillotined for high treason by the Revolutionary Tribunal.
History marches on with its inevitable cycles and onerous obligations.
Chinese chairman Mao is supposed to have once stated...'the East wind will prevail over the West wind'...and so it is starting to feel. The Western white arrogance coming to a long overdue end.
