Joe Biden: The crass shaming of a president

In the Age of Denialism Joe Biden has been a victim of elder abuse.

Joe Biden and I have one thing in common: Age. As a fellow senior I am aggrieved by the elder abuse he has suffered, from his party, the media, and his handlers. What sort of people will condone a senior humiliating himself before an audience of millions world wide, when his cognitive skills are fading so fast he should have been eased into retirement long ago. His humiliation stripped him and the office he holds of any dignity and credibility at a time of world crisis.

Eight US presidents have died in office, four by assassination, four by natural causes. Given his medical condition why wasn’t he accommodated with a graceful exit in a timely manner?

There is a line of succession that should have been initiated : “The order of succession specifies that the office passes to the vice president; if the vice presidency is simultaneously vacant, the powers and duties of the presidency pass to the speaker of the House of Representatives, president pro tempore of the Senate, and then Cabinet secretaries, depending on eligibility.” (Wikipedia)

His medical condition has been a subject of media speculation throughout his presidency, yet there was no action taken. Then comes the debate and everyone proclaims shock, awe and condemnation when he performs so badly.

It confirms we live in the Age of Denialism where reassuring lies are rampant and inconvenient truths are held in contempt.

My contempt is directed at the people who who failed to deal with his situation with tact and compassion, instead they set the scene for his public disgrace.

It appears we are Romans in the Colosseum. Everything is pure spectacle and politics becomes crass stupidity, and a teetering president is considered a marketable item.

The debate was the shaming of a senior citizen who should have been in full retirement, victim of a pea-brained political party and a dumb-ass media.
