How Washington's proxy war against Russia started WW III... and backfired!
Wars have a bad habit of starting small and end up being world wide. They can also backfire on the instigator.
“A mature great power will make measured and limited use of its power,” wrote the journalist and foreign policy critic Walter Lippmann in April 1965, three months before the United States committed itself to a ground war in Vietnam.”
"It will eschew the theory of a global and universal duty, which not only commits it to unending wars of intervention, but intoxicates its thinking with the illusion that it is a crusader for righteousness.”
“Regarding NATO’s war in Ukraine, we must first note that a large number of Russians are being killed. That has prompted American war criminal Lindsey Graham to declare that “the United States has never spent money so successfully as on the murder of Russians.”
Instead of imagining there is any morality in any of this, follow the money. Russia is a land power and NATO, with the United States at its heart, is a sea and air power. The idea that NATO ever genuinely thought they would prevail or, indeed, that they ever entertained any idea of prevailing in this land war is fanciful. Though the Ukrainian fatalities are horrific, they are not American fatalities and so they do not matter.
If NATO’s Ukrainian proxies kill 100,000 Russians at the cost of 1,000,000 Ukrainians, is that not a good deal? And is it not an even better deal, when we consider all of the collateral benefits, only two of which I will mention here.”— Declan Hayes
When I first heard Russia had started its Special Military Operation(SMO) on February 24th 2022 I said to myself this is one war too many, and it was going to escalate into something much larger and ultimately WW III, just as the assassination of Arch Duke Ferdinand in 1914 kicked off WW I. —Wars in recent times have a bad habit of starting small and end up being world wide.
Russia was not going to be accused of starting WW III which is exactly why it provided clearly stated objectives for its SMO. The most important and immediate objective was to repatriate the four eastern provinces of the Ukraine which are largely populated by ethnic Russians being decimated in a civil war by Azov fascist Ukrainian militias.
It was never the naked imperialist invasion reported by the cowardly Western media.
From the outset Russia made it clear it desired a negotiated settlement and negotiations were under way, only to be sabotaged by then British prime minister Boris Johnson’s April 2022 visit where he ordered Zelensky to fight on with NATO’s unconditional support.
Treacherous NATO had what it wanted, a Russian SMO that was quickly propagandized and escalated into a full scale war against Russia using Ukraine as its proxy. This was soon confirmed by indiscreet US President Biden when he stated publicly on a trip to Poland the real intention of the conflict was to weaken Russia, cause regime change, and ruin its economy. This was the president who liked to gloat in public and let too many cats out of too many bags. After humiliating himself and disgracing the office of the president for almost a whole term he is now relegated to the waffle cone and rubber chicken circuit.
NATO Sneaks up on Russia Intent on War
After the collapse of the USSR in 1989 NATO should have disappeared as did the Soviet equivalent, the Warsaw Pact. Even though some European countries wanted to form their own defense alliance, Washington crushed the initiative insisting that NATO must stay intact. It no longer served as a defense alliance, it was an instrument for Washington’s colonization of Europe and weaponized as a proxy and cover for the empire’s wars.
Where NATO members went from paying for their dues for a defense alliance, they were now paying for and fighting the empire’s wars. It is no coincidence the Secretary General of NATO, as window dressing for the empire, is always a European appointee taking his orders from Washington.
Not content to maintain control over NATO Washington expanded it eastward to include former Warsaw member states right up to Russia’s border, in spite of a chorus of warnings this would lead to war with the remaindered Russia—It was also Biden who recklessly boasted publicly Washington doesn’t recognize any country’s “sphere of influence”or their “red lines.”
From the time of the Munroe Doctrine of 1823 Washington claimed its sphere of influence as all of North and South America— a warning to European imperialists to stay on their side of the Atlantic! Since then it has come to claim the whole world as it own backyard negating all other sovereignties.
Washington is playing on Brzezinski’s grand chess board and Ukraine by its strategic location had a key role to play. It was NATO’s designated Trojan horse for war on Russia and the eventual conquest of all of Eurasia.
Pure“shock and awe”
It was pure shock and awe to witness how easily, like sheep to the slaughter, Washington led its 31 NATO vassal states into war against Russia. Especially so when Russia was a major trading partner with Europe and key to its industrial prosperity, especially so when it came to the Nord Stream pipelines supplying cheap Russian natural gas to Europe.
Washington was more than willing to cannibalize colonized Europe to get at Russia, use it as a staging area for war and Europe was the willing host and victim.
In spite of endless economic sanctions Russia’s economy did not collapse as it had already “sanction proofed” itself and quickly turned its trade eastward to offset the loss of Europe as a trading partner.
Militarily, it had to call up more troops to respond to NATO’s escalation but by the fall of 2023 it was becoming clear Russia was winning the war in spite of obscene billions of dollars squandered by NATO. Where it anticipated a quick and easy victory Russia revealed itself ready to fight with state of the art weaponry.
Not only was Russia winning the war its economy was invigorated by it.
Too cozy with Russia
Lost in the chaos of war and propaganda there was another urgent reason Washington wanted war in Ukraine. Europe and Russia were becoming more and more integrated economically as robust trading partners. This was heavily augmented by the ready supply of cheap Russian gas and petroleum. Washington’s influence over Europe was waning and blowing up the Nord Stream pipelines was an expedient way of breaking up this trade alliance and re-colonizing Europe.
Here again Biden and other US officials made reference to the sabotage with smirks on their faces revealing without a doubt who did it.
Washington was playing the very old game of divide and conquer and the re-colonized Europe was an expedient pawn sacrifice on the “grand chess board”.
Empires are not only purveyors of incessant lies and propaganda, they also lie and propagandize themselves out of existence. When they start believing their power is absolute, they own righteousness, they are “exceptional”, and God’s chosen few— the seeds of self-destruction are sown and pretensions become bloody delusional behaviors.
“ Whatever it takes, for as long as it takes”
NATO naively thought it was going win a quick and easy war on the cheap at Ukraine’s expense. It forgot that historically Russia has a stalwart history of defending its homeland from foreign invaders. It also forgot that Putin ordered his defense minister twenty years earlier to build a modern military. The war for NATO was a momentous intelligence failure in every sense of the word with the potential for backfiring which it has, now NATO is caught in its own trap.
“Whatever it takes, for as long as it takes,” is now the mantra under which the war must be fought. After humiliating, scapegoating and vilifying Russia for the last thirty years the beleaguered West cannot be seen to lose a war against it. With its teetering collapse so imminent it would have to retire its hegemonic ambitions and be content as one of several prominent nations in the emerging multipolar world.
So it is a profound irony the empire that has always carried out preemptive wars, regime changes ,and assassinations to sustain its dominance is now caught in its own trap, fighting a war already lost, bankrupted morally and fiscally, a spectacle for all the world to watch and deplore.
Wars and Genocides— Copy cats on the loose
It is always a great debate where wars end and genocides begin. Both are crude and barbarous ways of population control and we have to wonder if this is a hidden agenda of the forever war mongers. Wars and genocides are close cousins as they are the slaughter of the innocents.
Wars now are fought for the most contemptible of reasons, namely corporated profits and psychopathic egos. Russians are fighting for their homeland and sovereignty—always worthy causes. How many of the half million dead Ukrainian soldiers would have fought knowing they were fighting for corporate profits and psychopathic imperialist egos. Even as the war wears on Ukraine’s lush farmland and resources have already been sold off to greedy Western investors.
The Gaza genocide is a direct consequence of the Ukraine war. What better time to start a genocide than when the presiding empire is preoccupied with a war in Ukraine? What better time to start a genocide when a feeble minded president is a Zionist and AIPAC has dished out all the cash in all the right places. What better time to draw the empire into a second front to establish the “Greater Israel”, and settle old scores with Iran (and others), which like Russia wants nothing to do with endless war.
Static vs Dynamic Foreign Policy and Consequent Collapse
In a very profound sense this is the greatest war ever fought as it is a battle for the planet and outcomes will be long lasting and most likely irreversible. Vladimir Putin has already stated it might take thirty years for wounds to heal economically and geopolitically.
It is a war between East and West where the East wants peace, prosperity and multipolarity, vs the dying unipolar West pursuing its delusional hegemonic ambitions at ruinous cost to itself and others.
The West led by the empire has practiced a static foreign policy with the sole aim of establishing global hegemony for the past 70 years. Empires, like corporations, are monolithic by definition and solely aimed at acquiring wealth and power. Both are totalitarian.
Both pursue the same “foreign policy“ in lockstep. Their shared objectives are endless wealth and absolute dominance. Both America and China have very powerful global corporations. The difference being that in America corporations run government; in China they are controlled to serve the national interest. Where economic planning prevails in the East, Western economies are to left to free wheel on the whims of corporate power, privilege and suffering forever wars.
Western governments are incapable of renewing their leadership as party systems are corrupted and leaders only acceptable to the status quo take office where they serve the vested interests that control government and rob national economies in service to corporate privilege. Thereby we have a stalemate US presidential election where it matters not who wins. The lobbyists, donors and oligarchs are waiting in the wings to give their marching orders.
Western elites are suffering from acute PTSD — Post Traumatic Stress Disorder— from the terrifying realization they no longer get to rule the world. While the West has been waging war on the world for the last fifty years, the East has been building prosperous societies.
Change and dynamic progressive foreign policies are what drive the world forward all others are relegated to the dust bin of history.
Those who ignore history and its stunning prescience pay the price. The same stories, the same cycles told and repeated over and over again. The fall of empires is as inevitable as the setting sun. We live in a temporal world where everything is in a constant state of flux.
As Walter Lippmann wrote 59 years ago “A mature great power will make measured and limited use of its power,” Six decades later it is more barbaric and immature than ever.
What happens when you have idiots at the helm...elected by some more gullible idiots.
