Harper's"pit bull"wants to be PM! A Cautionary for Canadian Voters
When democracy is on the ropes and elections so easily corrupted voters are easy prey for fake populists, big big money and demagogues.
I can follow the current election with some detachment as I have already decided on the party I am going to vote for. It is a personal precedent as I have never voted for the Liberal party in my life, even though I qualify as a small “l” liberal we have our irreconcilable differences. Only one of which is that it has been promising for over a hundred years to bring in proportionate representation and failed to do so. It is content to practice our weird version of democracy where it holds power with only 32% of the popular vote. Its auto-conversion to neoliberalism is but another issue, but then so have all the other parties.
The whole of North America and beyond is a political train wreck of immense proportions. When the wreck is burning out of control it is no time to change government, especially when the alternative is of questionable pedigree.
For too long, Canada has been playing the game of Tweedledee-Tweedledum politics where the liberals and conservatives take turns colonizing the country to the present situation where there may no longer be an alternative. We married into an empire in the making that is now in precipitous decline. It has been in decline since the 1990’s when it was at its apogee.
The Conservatives are non-starters as they have the specters of Stephen Harper and Brian Mulroney hanging over them. Both have been prominently instrumental in the betrayal and colonization of Canada. When Brian Mulroney left office in1993 Canadians took their revenge and demolished his party at the polls.
Stephen Harper reincarnated conservatism (CPC founded 2003) in Canada as a wannabe US Republican copy cat and proceeded to dismantle Canada. The present Conservative leader was Harper’s protege and designated “pit bull” scripted to make Harper appear the moderate. When Justin Trudeau achieved his landslide victory in 2015, it was largely a reflection of voters' revulsion toward the Harper regime.
Poilievre, the current leader, embodies the Harper legacy while harboring a virulent strain of 'Trumpism.'
Harperism foreshadows Trumpism.
We live in a time when neoliberalism has achieved its goal of denigrating governments pushing them to the margins where they serve as catering services to an immoral and barbarous status quo. The colonization of the West has had a devastating effect on Europe as it struggles to come to grips with the devastation of the Ukraine war and the caprices of the empire that have dominated it since 1945.
The credibility of political parties is at an all time low, flawed and leaving us with narrowed options. As political parties mutate so must our voting habits. Strategic voting means to vote for the best possible outcome rather habitually following party loyalties.
Crisis demands solidarity, foregoing partisanship. Too often partisanship is a piss poor excuse for doing nothing as politicians are wont to do.
Our votes must be an informed vote where the overriding issue is the world crisis we are now experiencing.
Trump has betrayed the very voters who put him in office, as they are going to be taxed more heavily than ever to the pay the bills for the empire’s wars, past and present. In too many ways Trump is a bankruptcy trustee.
Where I come from the big issues in this election are stability, continuity, integrity and the hope our leadership is some what visionary. Given the circumstance we are in, and dubious pedigree of the Opposition party, the incumbent gets my vote.
History’s Parrot is read in 39 US states and 52 countries world wide.
Yes, “PP” is Harper 2.0. And Harper, who gutted research, forced scientists to keep quiet, cut the GST from 7 to 5%, costing C$45B in lost revenue to necessitate deep spending cuts (health care has not yet recovered from that), was actually the model neo-liberal government, a “trial run” for the Heritage Foundation’s ideological model to write their Project 2025. So the neo-liberal puppets of the Fraser Institute (which is in charge of the project of the over 600 world-wide stink tanks, including Heritage Foundation, called the World Economic Freedom Index)), Danielle Smith and PP, fully intend to implement their own version of Project 2025 in Canada. PP has asked, regarding Carney’s call to tRump, what did they talk about? Well it goes like this - Carney went to Europe to talk to the leaders there, and they agreed on a plan to gradually sell off their US Treasuries, especially if tRump continues with this tariffs nonsense. So Carney’s call to tRump was to inform the orange toddler that Canada and Europe could crash the US$ if he doesn’t smarten up. (follow Danielle Bruneau on Bluesky) Re: tariffs, yesterday I left a message at 3 departments at the Chinese consulate letting them know that the way to beat the tariffs is not by retaliation, but by all countries accepting only their own currency for their exports to USA. These are smart people who will listen. Same message sent to someone at EU parliament, they might pay attention. Same message to Cdn Min of Fin - they’re perpetually stupid and likely won’t even read it.
