The good professor makes a very salient point very relevant to our times as both “career politicians“ and “partisan politics” are the great malaise of our times. Long ago politicians of the West forgot who they are working for and have become toxic bat boys catering to the vested interests controlling them. They are bought and paid for with blatant bribery. They indulge in power, privilege and moral penury.
Politics is by nature a coercive process which has since become barbarism practiced by those in starched white shirts and bloody red ties.
Politics does in fact become a “career”where self-service prevails over public service. Self-aggrandizement and narcissism are the hallmarks of success. Artless dodgery and immorality are the operating systems.
Partisanship is a rejection of common sense and a free ticket to indulge in anarchy and chaos. A big problem for us is that government is controlled by corporate capitalist expediencies and critical aspects of socialism have demolished. Neoliberalism has become the frame work of our societies and we are enslaved to it (as are our political elites, though they cannot acknowledge it). The MacCarthy Hearings served to purge socialism from the US system. Politicians cater to the ideologies that covertly influence and control them.
Look behind the candidate and know their political history— for that is who they really are.
As I write this there are millions of Americans in every major city, in every state protesting Trump’s insane policies. He has been so egregiously stupid as to think he can change America and the world by his executive orders with the black-hearted strokes of his ostentatious signature.
In normal times elections are supposed to be civil, if some what rambunctious— exercises of the democratic process. They have now become the helter-skelter frenzy in pursuit, of money, power and privilege and damn the consequences. Where democracy has been eviscerated so too have elections, value systems and political parties are in collapse, clamoring for votes and tenures of which they are unworthy. The demonstrations in the USA take the measure of how egregiously the public trust has been betrayed and social contracts shattered.
The recent US presidential election showed how utterly corrupt and dangerous elections have become and how they can back fire. One war criminal president was replaced by another, who only after weeks in office has made matters worse, with devastating consequences world wide.
We like to see our countries as being sovereign, when in fact we are slave states to the ruinous ideologies in full control of our destinies.
It took eighty years to create the mess the West is in. It is going to take the steady hands of reform minded, progressive governments many years to re-constitute the West. The process doesn’t start until we repudiate endless wars and clean up our legislative houses.
Future generations must succeed where current and past generations have failed.
We Canadians would be very wise to vote for the devil we know than the one clamoring to get back at the levers of power and make matters worse.
....and DON'T elect anyone who is financially well off!!!
A very curious endorsement of ... who, exactly?
