Canada in Crisis: Trudeau is a symptom of a much bigger crisis.

Enough has been said about about the failures of Canada’s current prime minister. He has served an eight year apprenticeship at the country’s expense. He has embarrassed himself and the country too many times on the international stage. He has shown contempt for the public he is supposed to serve on too many occasions.

Politicians are supposed to lead with the blessing of their party and the public they serve. This was breached long ago but the PM continues to malinger in office. Where he fails to step down the party must act and has failed to do so. His incumbency becomes the party’s problem .

Very recently, in Britain the Conservative party deposed two prime ministers before choosing the present incumbent. Why not here?

Canada has deeply rooted structural problems when it comes to practicing our feeble democracy. The PM has publicly refused to bring in reform as the present broken system favors his party.

In 2021 he called an election after losing his majority in 2019. It never occurred to him the electorate judged his party’s performance unworthy of a second majority.

Governments and leaders are supposed to be responsible and accountable. The Liberal party and its leader are both in contempt of Parliament for not better serving the electorate and reducing our democracy to a sham show.

In a time when the world is under going tumultuous change Canada needs strong leadership.
