America's Brinkmanship-The dirtiest game of all
Knowing the Dulles brothers is foundational to understanding what America has become today.
Preface
Blogging for me is one of life’s great adventures. It caters to my interest and fascination with history; who we are, where we have been, and where we are going. It also satisfies my addiction for writing.
Many years ago I was a practicing artist working in clay. The love of my life at that time; now that same love is directed at my writing. Artists are known to work in many mediums, and their current love affair is the medium they are working.
Clay and words are wonderfully plastic means of self-expression. Turning to writing I realize more than ever the powerful kinship between the literary and visual arts; both are very pictorial in their own way. They are how we see the world.
What started me writing was getting involved in politics and political issues, resulting in a stream of letters to editors. One Canadian prime minister unbeknown to him was my first mentor. My anger at his betrayal of the country demanded I pick up pen and paper. The rest is history.
The advantages of writing are many, you don’t have clay under finger nails, and don’t get cataracts from looking into hot kilns.
Having an artistic background colors my world view as I see foreign cultures not just in political terms but also in terms of their arts and culture. As a trained ceramist I have an enduring admiration for the arts and cultural legacies of foreign countries, especially with the great ceramic traditions of China and Japan.
We are the crippled and impertinent west when we only other see countries and cultures in political terms and and not the richness and values they bring to the world with their own unique cultures.
I was furious when the US invaded Iraq in 2003 on totally false pretenses. The US Army allowed Iraq’s 65 museums looted of thousands of ancient pieces of art and artifacts; dating back to the time of the earliest civilizations. This was allowed even after archeologists, anthropologists, museums and others petitioned US officials to guard these facilities against looting and desecration. Even so it happened. It has been suggested it was allowed intentionally as part of the genocide to erase Iraq.
I use the word genocide deliberately, as the invasion of Iraq resulted in over a million deaths, followed by a decade of sanctions that killed 500,000 children due to lack of medical supplies.
Humankind has the talent of building great cultures, and then leaving them to cretins and psychopaths to systematically plunder them out of existence.
Thus we have the game of Brinkmanship…. the dirtiest game of them all.
