A very young Soldier's deferment

Oh, young lad I have a sorry tale to tell. It is all about your future. I am a crotchety senior who knows something of the future because I have seen the past. I have been spectator to too many wars and too much death. War in our times has become a very bloody cliché, too many are prepared to see repeated over and over.

It appalls me to see your indoctrination has already begun. You are wearing the uniform and the patch with your charming home made woody gun. Is this your dress rehearsal for a future mission where your youth and innocence will be exploited by psychopathic megalomaniacs willing to see you go to a bloody grave so they can buy another yacht, buy more whores, and pretend your blood is not part of their bottom line.

When I see a picture of a billionaire’s yacht, I ask myself at what cost? How many had their livelihoods stolen; or how much blood was shed?

As you grow older you should know the difference between socialism and sociopathy, along with the evils of ethnocentrism.

It appalls me Slavs are fighting Slavs. I live in a culture representing people from around the world. In my last job we had people from 27 different countries. We alI got along. I live in a valley that has ethnic enclaves from all corners of the world. I ask myself how can so many people from so many countries get along peacefully and in harmony? The first answer is that we have a level of democracy and political stability. We have affluence.

A third answer is that we have refugees from war torn countries. They have paid the price when war has torn their country apart. Ironically our dismal federal government is accomplice to foreign wars— refugees arrive as to if assuage their bloody handed guilt—the refugees are so thankful the government is guaranteed votes in the elections so they are free to perpetrate more wars and assuage more guilt. It is a parade of moral destitution. This is why Joe Biden is letting in thousands of refugees from Mexico- to stack the vote in his favor in 2024.

Politicians are war’s hypocrites and acolytes. They count on our silence to endorse their hideous crimes against humanity.

A fourth and the most critical one in these torrid times is that no great power has dropped by to subvert our way of life with a color revolution or a regime change as so often happens around the world. While we have the temporary protection of riding the coattail of an empire, we live in a world where change is on steroids and there are tectonic shifts in economic power as the world must move inevitably from being unipolar to multipolar.

No, I do not fear a foreign invasion of my country. I know something of the history of others. What I do fear is Western Civilization has become its own worst enemy, stuck in the 20th Century and enslaved to a fatal culture of warfare and militarism.

You, my young friend, will be the adult by product of a warfare culture, and a country destroyed by war. Do not sacrifice yourself or see others sacrificed.

My eldest grandsons are the eligible age. They have received a stern warning— I do want them coming home in a body bag. There are too many wars fought by too many willing to say the thoughtless -Yes, when it should be a decisive -No! Militarism is an enticement for the young, the adventure, the romance, the urge to exercise power over others, to “play guns” as I did as a boy. In these times wars are about cheap propaganda sponsored by delusional ideologues preying on innocent young minds and bodies.

War is a romance, the dance with death, ending when the bullet goes through the brain, the bomb goes off, or the mind is shattered.

I am the nephew of several deceased aunts and uncles who fought the great war and survived. For the younger it was women, whiskey, and souvenirs, for older ones it was physical and mental wounds carried to their graves.

You are of the age where your father, mother, uncles, aunts and older brothers could be fighting this war. I will never know how deeply touched you are by war. The war mongers already have you in their evil clutch. Your innocence is too easily exploited. In a few years they are going to hand you a real gun to do real killing of other soldiers who have families like your family. Do not your sell your soul to war.

This picture, is your picture, I hope your age will buy you and so many others a permanent deferment.
